What is Adoption? Adoption is a legal process whereby a person undertakes the parenting of another. In most often occurrence adoption is of a child, from that person's biological or legal guardian; however, adults can be adopted too. Legal adoptions permanently transfer all rights and duties, outlined under the law from the biological parent or parents. The adoption process includes Criminal and CPS background checks for the adoptive parents and all family members residing in the homes. A home study is completed by a licensed Social Worker and if the child is 12 or older the child must consent to the adoption. What Comes Next? Now after numerous family visits and outing; having background checks-criminal and cps; and home studies, it’s time to legally create this Forever Family and while this is a joyous occasion, it can also bring headaches. Watts Legal Firm PLLC, will provide step by step instruction on completing the paperwork, preparing the family for the big day and ensuring that the proper documents are obtained and submitted in order to apply for a new birth certificate. Whether the adoption is Private or through Child Protective Services, Watts Legal Firm PLLC, is available to assist in creating your Forever Family.
